The Organization of Chinese Americans, Inc. (OCA) was founded in 1973, is a national non-profit, non-partisan civil rights advocacy organization. OCA is dedicated to securing the rights of Asian Pacific American citizens and permanent residents through legislative and policy initiatives at all levels of government. OCA aims to embrace the hopes and aspirations and to better the lives of the more than 10 million Asian Pacific Americans living in the United States.

Dear OCA Members and Friends,

On behalf of the Board of Directors of OCA-DFW, I want to thank our sponsors, members and friends for their continual support. As I start my term as the new President of the OCA-DFW Chapter, I want to acknowledge Shannon Chen and our past Board Members for their outstanding leadership, dedication and contribution to the DFW community.

OCA is a national non-profit organization, headquartered in Washington, D.C. With over 80 Chapters and affiliates across the nation, OCA encourages its chapters to develop strong leadership and community involvement programs on a local level. This year, the Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter (OCA-DFW) celebrates 23 years of cultural awareness, diversity, and leadership development in our mission to embrace the hopes and aspirations of Asian Pacific Americans in the United States.

Our OCA-DFW chapter continues to strongly support our local community. OCA-DFW supported the metroplex Asian Festivals celebrating Asian Heritage Month in May. Chapter members organized a team and participated in the cultural 2008 Annual DFW Dragon Boat, Kite and Lantern Festival. The OCA-DFW mixed team showed great teamwork advancing to the finals and placing third runner-up out of seventeen teams.  In June and July, the focus was on youth leadership, and OCA-DFW sponsored and participated in the Junior Leadership Seminar and the one week Community Youth Leadership Camp.  During the month of August, OCA-DFW sponsored the well attended and growing 2008 Asian Film Festival of Dallas and hosted a book-signing event for Professor Judy Yung on her new book "The Adventures of Eddie Fung".  In October, OCA-DFW members and volunteers organized the Annual Feed the Homeless Program, delivering, and serving tasty Chinese food to the residents of the Union Gospel Mission Shelter in Fort Worth.  November found our members and families volunteering at the Annual OCA-DFW community fall picnic.

With this coming New Year, we have hopes and aspirations to build on our community programs and service to address some of the growing needs in these tough economic times and foster youth leadership and volunteerism. We are appreciative of the continual support of our sponsors, members and friends and ask for your support so that together we can make a positive difference in our community.

I wish you all a wonderful and prosperous Year of the Ox.
