The Dallas-Fort Worth Chapter of the Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA-DFW) hosted a free lunch for the residents of the Union Gospel Mission homeless shelter in Fort Worth on Sunday, April 4. Twenty-eight OCA members, volunteers and young helpers participated in the event by delivering the food and serving lunch. Over 250 people feasted on beef and broccoli, sesame chicken, shredded pork with garlic sauce, pork ribs, fried noodle, fried rice, egg rolls, and fortune cookies. It was a special treat for the shelter residents and those from nearby. Funding for this event was generously donated by individual contributions from OCA-DFW members and Verizon Foundation. The food was partially purchased and partially donated by One-Plus-One Restaurant in Plano, Jade Palace Restaurant in Plano, and Young & Young Fortune Cookies in Garland. Some of our young helpers also entertained the diners with classical violin performance. This was the eighth year in a row OCA-DFW has hosted the event.

A volunteer Christian organization funded almost entirely by private donation, Union Gospel Mission fills an important need in Tarrant County by serving the homeless community. In addition to providing free meals and shelter, it operates a family center and a residence for low income senior citizens. It is supported by about one hundred local churches through the Mission Partners program. For further information on the shelter, please contact Charlotte Logan, at the Union Gospel Mission, Tel: 817-332-2922.
