are some of the reasons why it is important for you to be a member of OCA:
OCA's primary
objectives include
- Promoting
active participation of Asian Pacific Americans in both civic and national
matters.
- Securing social justice, equal opportunity, and equal treatment of Asian
Pacific Americans.
- Eliminating stereotypes of and prejudices against Asian Pacific
Americans.
- Promoting the cultural heritage of Asian Pacific Americans.
Advocacy
- Be represented by the local DFW chapter of the only national Chinese
American civil rights organization, based in Washington D.C., which stands
firmly behind the civil rights of all Asian Pacific Americans. As such, we
are absolutely committed to standing as one unified body in the protection
of civil rights of all Asian Pacific Americans.
- Work with our staff in the national office in Washington, D.C. to monitor
government and political activities and to ensure that the civil rights of
all Asian Pacific Americans are not being compromised.
National Networking
- Participate in the democratic process through National Board meetings,
the annual National Convention, Leadership Development Programs, and other
OCA-sponsored activities.
- Establish relationships with other major civil rights organizations and
support effective coalition building among other Asian Pacific American and
minority groups.
Community and Career
Awareness
- Receive our quarterly newsmagazine, Image, which provides current
information of interest to Asian Pacific Americans by covering legislation,
political developments, social and economic issues, as well as educational
and professional opportunities.
- Provide the next generation of Asian Pacific Americans with education,
professional networking, and support, including internships, scholarships,
informational resources and career guidance.
- Reach out to other community groups such as local government, school
board, and other minority organizations to work toward common goals at the
local, state and national levels.
Image Enhancement
- Work to eliminate stereotypes in the media, in the public policy arena,
and in the community; help to build a more positive and accurate image of
Asian Pacific Americans.
OCA-DFW is a non-profit
501(c)(3), non-partisan, civic organization. As such, your membership dues
are fully deductible to the fullest extent allowable by law.
